Solar Security Cameras for Remote Sites in Mozambique

Solar security cameras give you surveillance where mains power and cabling are hard to reach, from farms to building sites. They suit construction sites, solar plants, warehouses and other remote facilities across Mozambique. A panel, a battery and a 4G or wireless-bridge camera work together so the site is watched day and night without a trench or a generator.

How solar security cameras work

A solar security kit combines a solar panel, a rechargeable battery and a 4G or wireless-bridge camera. The panel charges the battery by day so the camera runs continuously, and footage is sent over a mobile network or a long-range wireless link back to your office or control room.

Most kits are mounted on one pole: the panel at the top, facing north to catch the sun, the battery box below it and the camera where it has the best view. A SIM card from a local operator carries the video. Cameras send short clips and alerts rather than streaming all day, which keeps the data use and the power use low.

Where solar cameras make sense

  • Construction sites with no permanent power yet.
  • Farms and agricultural land spread over large areas.
  • Solar farms and substations in remote locations.
  • Logistics yards and warehouses far from the main building.
  • Temporary sites that need monitoring for a few months.

Even sites with mains power use solar cameras on the far fence or the back gate, where running cable across the yard would cost more than the camera. Our guide on security cameras for factories and warehouses in Matola shows how they fit with a wired system.

Key benefits

  • No trenching or mains wiring: fast to install and easy to move when the site changes.
  • Off-grid resilience: keeps working during power cuts and outages.
  • AI alerts: combine with AcuSense to detect people and vehicles and ignore animals and moving grass. See the benefits of AI surveillance for what that means in practice.
  • Phone access: watch live and receive alerts in the Hik-Connect app, wherever you are.

Protect the kit itself

A camera on a remote pole is also a target. Panels and batteries are what thieves look for, so we mount them high on the pole, use anti-theft bolts and lock the battery box. The camera is placed so it can see the base of its own pole, and the kit sends an alert if the camera is moved, covered or loses power. On sites with a guard, the guard's phone receives the same alerts, so someone can respond quickly.

Design it for your location

Sunlight, battery capacity and connectivity all affect performance. Mozambique has strong sun most of the year, but the rainy season from November to March brings days of cloud, so the battery must be sized to bridge them. We also check the mobile signal at the exact pole position before installing, because a strong signal at the gate does not mean a strong signal at the far end of a farm.

The last point is dust. In dry months, sand settles on the panel and cuts its output. A quick clean every few weeks, or a panel mounted at a steeper angle, keeps the battery full. Before we install, we tell you how many cloudy days the kit is sized for, how much data it is expected to use, and what to check each month. A.S.S. LDA designs solar and off-grid surveillance to fit your site.

Frequently asked questions

How many days can a solar camera run without sun?

It depends on the battery size and how much the camera records. A properly sized kit is designed to run through two to three cloudy days; we size the panel and battery for your location and recording schedule.

Does a solar camera need mobile coverage?

A 4G camera needs a signal from Vodacom, Movitel or Tmcel at the site. Where there is no coverage, a point-to-point wireless bridge sends the video to a building that has internet, up to several kilometres away with line of sight.

Can the camera still record if the connection drops?

Yes. Cameras with an SD card keep recording locally and upload the footage when the link returns, so a short outage does not create a gap.

How much data does a 4G solar camera use?

That depends on the number of alerts and how much live viewing you do. Most of the time the camera only sends short clips when something moves, so a normal monthly bundle is enough for many sites. If you plan to watch live for long periods, choose a bigger bundle. We set the video quality to balance clear images and data.

Do solar cameras need maintenance?

Very little. Clean the panel when dust builds up, check that the view is clear after storms, and replace the battery when it no longer lasts through the night. We offer maintenance visits for remote sites.

Can I add solar cameras to my existing system?

Yes. A solar camera can send its video to your Hikvision recorder over a wireless bridge, or sit next to your wired cameras in the same Hik-Connect app, so you still watch everything in one place.
